Die Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) war ein Staat in Mitteleuropa, der von 1949 bis 1990 existierte. Aus der Teilung Deutschlands nach 1945 entstanden, war sie bis zur friedlichen Revolution im Herbst 1989 eine kommunistische bzw. realsozialistische Diktatur unter Führung der Sozialistischen Einheitspartei Deutschlands (SED), die sich zum Marxismus-Leninismus bekannte. Die DDR verstand sich als „sozialistischer Staat der Arbeiter und Bauern“ und deutscher Friedensstaat, der die Wurzeln für Krieg und Faschismus beseitigt habe. Quelle: www.wikipedia.de
