Sniper mode
The zoomed view down the gun sight, as opposed to the third-person arcade view the game starts in.
Also known as sniper view, arcade mode, zoom.
Arcade view sits behind and above the vehicle and is what most driving is done in. Sniper mode looks through the gun itself at several levels of zoom, which is the only way to aim at a weak spot at range.
The catch is tunnel vision: in sniper mode a player sees nothing but the target, which is how a scout gets flanked while lining up a shot. Experienced players spend as little time zoomed in as the shot requires.
