The "Etzion Gever" Brigade, number 550, was established in 1982, based on armored forces deployed in the Negev region, including the Sherman tank battalion in Eilat and another company in Ein Yahav. The brigade was founded by Colonel Ya'akov Sadeh (known as Shasha) on the basis of the Magach tanks, and its permanent camp was the fortress camp in Eilat.
