Leopard 120 Verbessert historical reference
In the late 1970s, the German military had the idea of mounting the 120 mm smoothbore gun from the Leopard 2 on all Leopard 1 tanks, which would significantly raise their firepower. Various modification options were considered, but after mass production of Leopard 2 tanks began, the plan was scrapped to avoid a gun deficit and to keep up the pace of the new vehicles' production.
