Located in Boston, Massachusetts, with its campus based near the Charles River, CIT was one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning by 2042. This was also the year one of its most prominent alumni, Robert House, graduated. CIT was one of the most important centers of technological research and development in the pre-War United States, with research encompassing genetic manipulation (Greenetech Genetics), nuclear fusion (an underground reactor at CIT later being repurposed as the Institute's own experimental nuclear reactor), experimental polymers, military robotics and software. CIT employees were responsible for the creation of the Code Defender security software, which was revolutionary enough that it would be in use by the Institute for the next two centuries.
