# View range

How far a vehicle can spot enemies, in metres, capped at 445 metres no matter how high the figure climbs.

Also known as viewrange, vision range, spotting range.

View range is the reach of a vehicle's own vision. It comes from the [turret](/glossary/turret.md), is improved by the [commander](/glossary/crew-role.md)'s training, [optics](/glossary/optics.md) and coated optics, and is reduced when the commander is wounded.

The hard cap is 445 metres: nothing is spotted beyond it. View range above that is not wasted, though, because [concealment](/glossary/camouflage.md) is subtracted from it. Against a well hidden target, extra view range is what brings the [spotting](/glossary/spotting.md) distance back up toward the cap.

Vision is checked from specific points on the vehicle, so a hull sitting behind a rise sees less than the number suggests, and a vehicle that pokes only its turret over sees from there.
