# Tracks

The running gear, which immobilises the vehicle when broken and absorbs shells like spaced armor when intact.

Also known as track, tracked, detracked, chassis.

A broken track stops the vehicle until it is repaired, which is the most common way a target is held in place long enough to be killed. Tracking an opponent and letting allies finish them is a play in itself.

Intact tracks are also [armor](/glossary/armor-thickness.md). They count as [spaced armor](/glossary/spaced-armor.md), so a [shell](/glossary/shell.md) that hits the track first spends [penetration](/glossary/penetration.md) before reaching the hull, and a vehicle can deliberately present its track to eat a shot.

Damage dealt to a target that an ally has tracked is credited as tracking assistance, so immobilising an enemy shows up in the statistics.
