# Top tier

Being among the three highest-tier vehicles in the battle, where your armor holds and your gun works on everything.

Also known as downtier, downtiered, top of the list.

The usual template puts three vehicles per side at the top tier. Those three meet opponents one and two [tiers](/glossary/tier.md) below them: their [armor](/glossary/armor-thickness.md) stops [shells](/glossary/shell.md) that would go through anything else in the queue, and their guns penetrate everywhere.

Top tier is also a responsibility. A team whose three strongest vehicles hide behind the rest loses [battles](/glossary/battles.md) it had already won on paper, which is why the phrase is usually said as a reproach.
