# Ridge line

The crest of a hill, which conceals everything behind it and can be fought over only by vehicles with the depression to shoot across it.

Also known as ridge, crest.

A ridge is a wall that both sides can approach. Whoever crests it first is exposed, whoever waits behind it can [spot](/glossary/spotting.md) and shoot the moment the other appears, so ridges are held rather than crossed.

They are also where [hull down](/glossary/hull-down.md) positions come from, which is why the same few ridges on each map decide the outcome of most [battles](/glossary/battles.md) fought there.
