# Passive scouting

Spotting from a stationary concealed position, using view range and camouflage rather than speed.

Also known as passive spotting, passive scout.

A passive scout parks in a [bush](/glossary/bush.md) at the start of a battle and stays there. Standing still and not firing keeps [concealment](/glossary/camouflage.md) at its best, so the vehicle sees the enemy long before the enemy sees it, and the whole team shoots what it [lights](/glossary/light-tank.md).

It is the safer and usually more productive way to scout: [assistance damage](/glossary/assistance-damage.md) accumulates with no risk, and the position stays useful for as long as it is not discovered.
