# MatchmakingMM

The system that builds the two teams of a random battle, balancing them by battle tier, vehicle class and platoons rather than by player skill.

Also known as matchmaker, MM.

The matchmaker picks a [battle tier](/glossary/battle-tier.md) for the queue, then fills both sides with vehicles eligible for it. Its balancing rules are about composition, not ability: it mirrors the number of [heavies](/glossary/heavy-tank.md), [mediums](/glossary/medium-tank.md), [tank destroyers](/glossary/tank-destroyer.md), [light tanks](/glossary/light-tank.md) and [artillery](/glossary/artillery.md) across the two teams, and caps how many of some classes a battle may contain.

The usual template is three vehicles at the [top tier](/glossary/top-tier.md), five in the middle and seven at the bottom, on each side. A player at the bottom of that [spread](/glossary/dispersion.md) faces vehicles two [tiers](/glossary/tier.md) above them, which is the origin of most complaints about the system.

It does not read ratings. Two teams can be assembled with wildly different average skill, and no public queue in this game balances for it, which is why individual [win rate](/glossary/win-rate.md) moves so slowly: one player is one fifteenth of the equation.
