# Mastery badge

A badge awarded for a single battle whose base experience beats a set share of everyone playing that vehicle, from third class up to Ace Tanker.

Also known as Marks of Mastery, ace tanker, ace, mastery, class 1.

Where [marks](/glossary/marks-of-excellence.md) measure a run of [battles](/glossary/battles.md), a mastery badge measures one. The game takes the base [experience](/glossary/experience.md) earned in that battle, before [premium account](/glossary/premium-account.md), [boosters](/glossary/booster.md) and any multiplier, and compares it against the distribution for that vehicle on the region.

- •Third class: better than half of that vehicle's players
- •Second class: better than 80 percent
- •First class: better than 90 percent
- •Ace Tanker: better than 99 percent, the best percent of battles fought in it

Using base experience rather than damage means the whole battle counts: damage, kills, [spotting](/glossary/spotting.md), capture and defence all feed the experience formula, so an Ace can be earned by a [scout](/glossary/light-tank.md) that dealt little and lit everything.

The thresholds are recalculated periodically per region, so an Ace on a rarely played vehicle asks for less than an Ace on a popular one.
