# Kiting

Staying at a distance an opponent cannot close, retreating as they advance and firing on the way.

Also known as circling, reverse kiting.

A faster vehicle with a usable gun can fight a slower one indefinitely by never letting it into range. Each time the opponent commits, the kiter backs off, fires, and repeats.

Circling is the close-range version: driving around a slower vehicle faster than its [turret](/glossary/turret.md) can follow. Both depend on knowing the opponent's [traverse speeds](/glossary/hull-traverse.md), and both end badly if a second enemy is watching.
