# Gun elevation

How far above horizontal a gun can point, which matters for shooting uphill and at vehicles on higher ground.

Also known as elevation.

Elevation is [depression](/glossary/gun-depression.md)'s counterpart, measured in degrees above level. Most vehicles have enough of it for ordinary terrain, and the ones that do not are visibly helpless against a target sitting above them.

It also caps how high [artillery](/glossary/artillery.md) can lob and how steep a hill a vehicle can fight up.
