# Engine fire

A fire started by a hit on the engine or fuel tanks, which drains hit points and damages modules until it is put out.

Also known as burning, fuel fire, vehicle fire.

A penetrating hit on the engine or a fuel tank can start a fire, at a chance printed on the engine's specification. While it burns it removes [hit points](/glossary/hit-points.md) continuously and injures crew, and it usually costs more than the [shell](/glossary/shell.md) that started it.

An automatic extinguisher deals with it instantly, a manual one has to be triggered, and improved fuel or a fire-fighting [equipment](/glossary/equipment.md) loadout lowers the chance of it happening at all. Vehicles with front-mounted engines and large fuel tanks are the ones known for burning.
