# Damage ratio

Damage dealt divided by damage received, a measure of how efficiently a player trades their hit points.

Also known as damage taken ratio, dmg ratio.

A ratio of 2 means twice as much damage dealt as taken. It rewards good positioning and [armor](/glossary/armor-thickness.md) use in a way raw damage does not: two players with the same [damage per game](/glossary/dpg.md) are not equal if one spends a full [health](/glossary/hit-points.md) bar getting there.

It is read with the class in mind. A [heavy tank](/glossary/heavy-tank.md) that holds a corner is supposed to take damage, and a [tank destroyer](/glossary/tank-destroyer.md) that takes any has usually been caught.
