# Cupola

The raised commander's hatch on top of a turret, often the only part of a hull down vehicle that can be hit.

Also known as commander's hatch, cupolas.

A cupola sticks up above the [turret](/glossary/turret.md) roof, so it stays visible when the rest of the vehicle is behind a [ridge](/glossary/ridge-line.md). On many vehicles it is thinner than the turret face, which turns an otherwise impenetrable [hull down](/glossary/hull-down.md) position into a target.

Vehicles with small, well-armored or absent cupolas are the ones that hold ridges best, and it is one of the first things a player checks before committing to a hull down fight.
