# Critical hit

Damage to a module or a crew member, which degrades what a vehicle can do without necessarily costing it hit points.

Also known as crit, critical damage, module damage crit.

Every hit checks what sits behind the point of impact. An engine, a gun, a [track](/glossary/tracks.md), an [ammo rack](/glossary/ammo-rack.md), a fuel tank or a [crew member](/glossary/crew-role.md) can be damaged or destroyed, and a [shell](/glossary/shell.md) that fails to penetrate can still cause one.

The consequences are specific: a damaged gun loses [accuracy](/glossary/accuracy.md), a wounded loader [reloads](/glossary/reload.md) slower, a broken engine cuts power, a destroyed ammo rack ends the battle. [Repair kits](/glossary/consumable.md) fix [modules](/glossary/module.md), first aid kits heal crew, and the repairs skill decides how fast an untended module comes back.
