# Clan

A persistent group of players with a tag shown next to their name, which is the unit every organised mode is played as.

Also known as guild, clan tag.

A clan holds up to a hundred members under a tag of two to five characters, with roles from [commander](/glossary/crew-role.md) down to recruit. The tag is what appears in brackets beside a player's name in battle.

It is not only a social group. [Clan Wars](/glossary/clan-wars.md), [Strongholds](/glossary/stronghold.md) and [Advances](/glossary/advances.md) are all fought by clans rather than by individuals, and the rewards, from [bonds](/glossary/bonds.md) and [gold](/glossary/gold.md) to [reward vehicles](/glossary/reward-tank.md), are distributed through it.
