# Camouflage

A vehicle's concealment value, which shortens the distance at which it can be spotted.

Also known as camo, concealment, camo value, camo rating.

Camouflage is a percentage that is taken out of an observer's [view range](/glossary/view-range.md). A vehicle with strong concealment facing a 400 metre view range might only be detected at 250, and the same vehicle standing in the open at speed is seen much further out.

It is not a single number. It changes with what the vehicle is doing:

- •Standing still conceals better than moving
- •Firing the gun applies a large penalty for a few seconds
- •Larger vehicles conceal worse than small ones, class by class
- •A [camouflage net](/glossary/camouflage-net.md), the camouflage [crew skill](/glossary/crew-skill.md) and a paint scheme all add to it

[Light tanks](/glossary/light-tank.md) and some [tank destroyers](/glossary/tank-destroyer.md) are built around it, and it is the mechanic that lets a vehicle sit 200 metres from an enemy and remain invisible.
