# Average tier

The battle-weighted average of the tiers a player has played, used to put their raw averages in context.

Also known as avg tier.

Average tier weights each vehicle's [tier](/glossary/tier.md) by the [battles](/glossary/battles.md) played in it. An account that has 10,000 battles at Tier X and 200 at Tier II sits just under X, not somewhere in the middle.

It exists to make raw averages readable. Damage, [credits](/glossary/credits.md) and [experience](/glossary/experience.md) all scale steeply with tier, so two accounts with the same [damage per game](/glossary/dpg.md) and two tiers between them are not comparable at all. [WN7](/glossary/wn7.md) used it as an explicit correction term, and per-vehicle ratings replaced it by measuring against each vehicle instead.
