# Assistance damage

Damage an ally dealt to a target the player spotted or tracked, credited to the player who made the shot possible.

Also known as assist, assisted damage, spotting damage, track damage.

The game [credits](/glossary/credits.md) two kinds of assistance. [Spotting](/glossary/spotting.md) assistance is damage dealt to a vehicle the player had spotted, tracking assistance is damage dealt to a vehicle the player had immobilised. Both are counted in full, and a battle can produce more assistance than damage.

It is what makes [light tanks](/glossary/light-tank.md) measurable. A scout's whole job is to make the enemy visible for someone else, and without assistance in the ledger that job scores zero. [Marks of Excellence](/glossary/marks-of-excellence.md) and some ratings use [combined damage](/glossary/combined-damage.md), damage plus assistance, for this reason.

Only one player is credited for spotting a target, the one who has it lit at the moment of the hit, so assistance cannot be double counted across a team.
