Drawing on experience with M4 Sherman tanks converted into flamethrower tanks, the U.S. Army Chemical Corps announced a competition to develop a flamethrower tank concept for combat in the Indochina region, specifically for infantry support during the Korean War. One of the requirements was the commonality and interchangeability of components with production vehicles. Cadillac submitted a concept, which was approved for further development, leading to work on a prototype in 1952. On July 27, 1953, the Panmunjom Armistice ended hostilities, and work on the project was suspended.
