Since the mid-1950s, the ASTRON program had been developing a highly protected alternative to the M67 flamethrower tank, featuring a four-track chassis. The vehicle's design weight was 50 tons, and an electric transmission was planned. Development of the vehicle, designated Astron-FL, was never completed. The main reason for this was the situation surrounding the ASTRON program itself: by the late 1950s, it had already lost its viability.
