Każdy człowiek boi się na swojej pierwszej bitwie. Jeśli zaprzecza, jest kłamcą. Niektórzy tchórze walczą równie dobrze jak odważni lub przestają się bać oglądając ludzi, którzy walczą, choć boją się tak jak oni. Prawdziwym bohaterem jest ten, kto walczy pomimo strachu. Jedni pozbywają się strachu po minucie pod ostrzałem, inni po godzinie, a jeszcze innym zajmuje to dni. Jednak prawdziwy mężczyzna nigdy nie pozwoli, żeby strach przed śmiercią wziął górę nad jego honorem, poczuciem obowiązku wobec ojczyzny i człowieczeństwem. Bitwa to najwspanialsza konkurencja, w której człowiek uwalnia swój instynkt. Wybiera ona wszystko to, co najlepsze i usuwa to, co złe.
