O zemi Moravě.
Svatopluk, vládce Moravy, byl statečným a obávaným mužem pro národy, které s ním sousedily. Tento Svatopluk měl tři syny. Když umíral, rozdělil svou zemi na tři díly a třem svým synům zanechal po jedné části. Prvního ustanovil velkým (hlavním) vladařem, ostatní dva podřídil svrchovanosti prvního syna. Napomínal je pak, aby jeden proti druhému nečinili rozbroje, a ukázal jim takový příklad: Vzal a svázal tři pruty a podal je prvnímu synovi, aby je zlomil. Když tomu nestačily síly, dal je opět druhému a podobně i třetímu. Potom rozdělil ty tři pruty a dal je třem po jednom. Oni je vzali a na příkaz, aby je zlomili, ihned je přelomili. A tímto příkladem je napomenul a pravil: „Zůstanete-li svorni a v lásce, nerozlučitelní, nepřátelé vás nebudou moci porazit a podřídit. Povstane-li mezi vámi svár a řevnivost a rozdělíte-li se ve tři vlády, nepodléhajíce prvému bratrovi, zahubíte se navzájem a sousedními nepřáteli budete zcela zničeni!“
