يشكل دير وبلدة نقطتَي الارتكاز في هذه الخريطة. وتمتد ثلاثة طرق من الشمال إلى الجنوب، ما يتيح الانتقال بسهولة من أحد طرفي الخريطة إلى الآخر. ويوفر فناء الدير مواقع رمي مثالية، وإن كانت متوقعة، للدبابات والمدفعية. ويمكن للتل الطويل في الغرب والأخدود المتعرج في الشرق توفير حماية مثالية من نيران العدو.
